The Benefits of a Corset Style Wedding Dress

December 29th, 2010 by writer | Comments Off | Filed in Bride Dresses

Popular throughout the nineties, the corset style of wedding dress laces up the back to create the perfect and sought after hourglass silhouette by the woman that has chosen the dress for her wedding day.

The Benefits of a Corset Style Wedding Dress

There is one main benefit to the corset style of wedding dress that was so popular in the past and this is the fact that it can indeed create the silhouette that you want. With the laces that are done up through the back of the dress and the support that is given to the side of the dress with these laces, brides are often find that they are able to appear as much as a couple of sizes smaller through the waist, but also that they are able to fit the wedding dress better.

However, there is one thing that should be considered before choosing the corset dress. Although you are able to virtually shrink a size from the moment that the dress is fastened it is important to consider just how comfortable you are going to be squished into a wedding dress all day. Are you going to be able to last the hours and hours of the wedding? Thinking about the reception, are you going to be able to dance the night away in a dress that has been laced tight up the back?

Trying on the dress will often give you the answer that you want, as for many brides the appearance of the dress is the most important element of all.

Wedding Bridal Gowns

December 28th, 2010 by writer | Comments Off | Filed in wedding gowns

The very fact that people regularly pass on wedding bridal gowns to the next generation tells you something about the tradition of weddings in our culture. It is refreshing to know that, while so many things change in our society, some things stay the same. Although some people like to get the latest fashion in bridal wedding gowns, many people treasure antique wedding dresses above all else.

Wedding Bridal Gowns

It gives a sense of continuity to families, and brings back old memories of previous wedding and forgotten ancestors. Although wedding bridesmaid dresses are seldom ever used in other wedding parties, many people believe that bridal dresses get better with age. In reality, however, it is not so simple.

When I was planning my wedding ceremony with my wife, she was very excited about inheriting a wedding bridal gown from her mother. It had been in their family for generations, and my wife loved anything traditional. Although in many ways she is a very modern woman, she loves old clothing, antique furniture, and other things that have the feeling of antiquity. She had never seen her mother’s wedding bridal gown, but she had a clear picture of it in her head.

Unfortunately, that clear picture didn’t really adequately reflect the appearance of wedding bridal gowns that have been locked in closets for several decades. She had no idea what kind of shape that wedding bridal gown was in, and had no way of anticipating it. You see, no one had opened the closet for years and looked inside. They had all assume that it would perfectly preserve all of the clothes within, but they were wrong. They all looked much worse for wear, particularly those dresses that had been in the family for several generations.

Despite her wishes, my wife now had to go shopping for wedding bridal gowns. This actually turned into a great opportunity for her. I was surprised at how quickly she got over the ruined wedding dress and got into picking out her own. She would spend hours looking at it photos of wedding bridal gowns on the Internet, trying to choose just the right one. Although it took her a while, it was fun to see her get so excited about it. I have to say that the dress that she picked out looked even more beautiful than her grandmother’s dress had in the old wedding orchid corsage photos, and certainly better than it looks now!

How to Choose Bridesmaid Dresses?

December 28th, 2010 by writer | Comments Off | Filed in Bride Dresses

Whatever you do, don’t leave the choice of bridesmaid dresses as an afterthought to your wedding dress.

Choosing bridesmaids dresses is just as important as choosing the bride’s dress. Why?

How to choose bridesmaid dresses

Well, some people think that the because the bride is the most important female the bridesmaids should sink into the background and do as they are told and wear what they are told to wear. Wrong!

Firstly, your bridesmaids are your friends and relatives. They deserve some consideration. But, actually, they deserve a lot more than that. Bridesmaids and bridesmaid dresses should complement and enhance the bride and the whole occasion. Just because the bridesmaids look beautiful doesn’t detract from the bride. In fact, if your bridesmaids’ dresses are not up to scratch, it will spoil the whole effect.

So how do you go about making the right choice for a group of your friends and relatives who, traditionally, have to pay for their own dresses?

Price and who pays is the first thing you have to decide and only you will know the answer to that. It may be that you have decided that you will pay for the bridesmaid dresses. In that case don’t be a dictator. Sit down with your girls (or their mothers if you have very young bridesmaids) and look through some catalogues. Go out with your bridesmaids and look and feel, try on some styles. Try to make a joint decision so no-one feels left out.

The question of payment need not be a vexed one. But if your bridesmaids are paying for their own dresses you have to have the diplomatic skills of Condy Rice. If they are paying, they will naturally want to have a bigger say in the choice. This makes it even more important that you get together and discuss. Whatever the situation is regards who pays, you will all have to agree on the following factors:

Price; Color; Style.

Price
You must agree a price range first because whoever pays must be comfortable with the decision. Be sensitive to those who may feel they have to go along with the other bridesmaids but may be stretching their resources.
Price will determine what your range of options are and where you go to buy your dresses. You may be able to do a deal with the maker of your bride’s dress if you are also shopping for bridesmaid dresses. Shop around; maybe have the bridesmaids appoint a representative to go with you. Come back with some ideas of costs.

Color
You have a range of options: same color as bride; different but complimentary; contrasting. This is a matter of personal choice but unless you are having some New Age affair in the woods, it is recommended that all the bridesmaids are dressed in the same color. It is a good idea to take with a sample of the dressing dress and then try it with different colors. The bride should insist on the final color scheme but it is important to reach agreement. Depending on your bridesmaids and your relationship with them, it may be a good idea to have a firm opinion in advance about what you want. It is your wedding after all!

Before you decide on a different color to the bride you have to consider the overall look, and think of flowers, corsages or other accessories. Will I work? Get some advice. The best people are the ones with experience; dress shop owners, family and friends who have made their own weddings. Take advice and make a decision.

One last word of warning: don’t forget the poor groom and best man. You need to know what colors (all the poor dears will have a limited choice compared to you) they are wearing so you don’t clash with them.

Style
This is very much a matter of taste and fashion. It is also determined by the bride’s dress. Your bridesmaids’ dresses really must compliment the bride’s dress. Contrasting styles can look disastrous. Depending on the formality of the occasion you do not have to insist on all bridesmaids’ dresses being exactly the same style but they should ‘match’. Again, it’s very much a matter of how you want your wedding.

You will be surprised at what bridesmaids are wearing these days if you are used to a ‘traditional’ look. These days bridesmaids’ dresses come in a variety of styles which will make your bridesmaids drop-dead gorgeous and turn the aisle into a catwalk!
Strapless dresses are very popular now as are spaghetti straps. Lengths vary but be sure to go for one length for all to look co-ordinated.

You might also want to consider that today’s bridesmaids wear dresses that can be re-used as evening wear, cocktail dresses, suits and so on. So when choosing, bear in mind that whatever the expense and whoever pays it is a nice thought that your girls will be able to wear their outfit many times in the future.

Wedding Dress Styles for an Autumn Ceremony

December 26th, 2010 by writer | Comments Off | Filed in Wedding dresses

Most weddings tend to occur during the spring or summer months, but an autumn ceremony can hold an allure all its own. The air is turning crisp as the leaves are changing colors. You can also count on less of a chance of rain than in the spring, and cooler temperatures than the blazing summer heat.

Wedding Dress Styles for an Autumn Ceremony

Another advantage of an autumn wedding is that you may have a better chance of booking your dream venue, hiring the best photographer, and making sure your guests don’t have previous engagements. Fewer people are getting married in the fall, so you aren’t competing with as many brides for all the resources you need to put on the perfect wedding.

Of course, you are also going to need a suitable wedding dress for an autumnal ceremony. Here are a few great styles that will make your day all the more special.

Chiffon Gown with Beaded Waist
This gorgeous Ivory-colored gown will stand out against a backdrop of dazzling fall colors. It has a sweetheart neckline atop the exquisitely fitted bodice. Knife pleating dazzles the edge, which will slim your figure and enhance your silhouette.

The skirt of this gown has a beaded waistband that wraps around the hips. Chiffon fabric is intricately cut to drape from the waist around the side of the dress and around the back.

Since this dress exposes the shoulders, you may want to pair it with a white scarf, a light matching jacket, or even a long, heavy veil. You don’t have to wear it all day, but it is good to keep something handy in case your reception evening gets chilly.

Strapless Lace and Tulle Slim Gown
This immaculate wedding gown would look unbelievable while walking hand in hand with your new husband through a field of freshly fallen leaves. The pleated tiers of tulle and beaded lace embellishments give this dress a distinctively textured and glamorous appeal.

The bodice of this dress is slimming and will look fabulous on every figure. The chapel train extends far behind the back of the skirt. Don’t worry about getting any colorful leaves caught up in the tulle ruffles while you walk around. It will only add to the autumnal appeal of this fabulous gown. This style comes in ivory and champagne, solid white, or solid ivory.

Cap Sleeved Satin Side-Draped A-Line Gown
The cap sleeves and high neckline of this delightful style will add a little bit of extra warmth on a crisp fall afternoon. It features a sweetheart bodice that is emblazoned with gorgeously detailed beaded lace to add an extra dash of texture.

This gown also has satin fabric that drapes down the side, as well as pick-up details all across the skirt. This will flatter every different body type. The chapel train will glide effortlessly behind you, dazzling your guests and keeping your legs nice and warm!

Available in ivory or white color options, this dynamic offering will keep you comfortable and cozy all throughout your big day.

Strapless Lace Tea-Length Cap Sleeve Gown
This ensemble is perfect to provide a little bit of extra coverage for a brisk evening. You can go through your wedding ceremony wearing just the strapless tea-length dress, and then add the coordinating cap-sleeve shrug for your reception.

Both pieces of this set are made with intricate white or ivory lace. You can even add a little dash of autumn colors by choosing from one of 42 different colored sashes. It is the perfect way to match your dress to the season and to your bridesmaid dresses.

Strapless Tulle Fit-and Flare Gown and Lace Jacket
The gorgeous lace jacket that comes with this gown isn’t just perfect for unpredictable fall temperatures—it also helps to create a long and lithe silhouette. Plan for an outdoor ceremony without fear of the elements when you have this stylish and sophisticated jacket on hand.

The gown itself has an elegant sweeping train and the strapless tulle dress has incredibly detailed hand-made lace appliqués that coordinate perfectly with the jacket. This gown comes in either ivory or white color options.

Short Strapless Taffeta Sheath Dress
Just because the weather might be a little chilly doesn’t mean you have to go with a long, draping gown. This knee-length dress also comes with a matching shrug so that your shoulders will stay warm throughout the day.

This strapless sheath dress looks like it walked straight off of a high-fashion runway. It is available in ivory or white and will look fantastic walking down the aisle.

When picking a wedding dress, it is important not to get frustrated if you don’t find the perfect one right off the bat. Take your time and try on a variety of different styles. Be patient. When you find the perfect fit, you’ll know it right away.

Petite Lengths on Wedding Dresses

December 23rd, 2010 by writer | Comments Off | Filed in Wedding dresses

The average height of women in the country is between 5’3″ to 5’4″, which means most of us fall under the petite category. But you wouldn’t get that impression by looking at fashion catalogs. The majority of models are statuesque, towering at heights that are generally far higher than the average woman.
alfredangelopetite.

Petite Lengths on Wedding Dresses

Do you find it difficult to shop for wedding dresses, and clothes in general, because you find that all of the lengths are too long? Do you always have to hem the bottom? Need to wear stilettos all the time to add a couple of inches? If you do, just find a designer that offers “petite” lengths.

Wedding gown designers like Maggie Sottero and Alfred Angelo offer petite length. This means that the bottom of the wedding dress is shorter in length than the “regular” size, so you won’t be constantly stepping and tripping on it if it’s designed to be full length and gracing the floor. Petite lengths may or may not be offered for an additional fee; check with the designer.

It’s good news for brides under 5’4″. You no longer need to wear a heel over 2 inches, since the dress will most likely fit to a T. However, if you’re around 5’4″ and are planning to wear a heel higher than 2 inches, it’s best to go with the regular length. The worst thing you could do is to get something too short. If in doubt, always go longer, as you can always get it hemmed.
